Response from the US Soccer Federation to questions on human rights risks and due diligence ahead of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

For the past two years, U.S. Soccer has been learning about Qatar and brought in experts to educate our players and staff about the culture and some of the challenges in the country. We have collaborated with several organizations that have experience and expertise in assessing human rights and/or risk in Qatar...

U.S. Soccer is putting together a detailed approach to how we will work with any vendors in Qatar, including our team hotel, family hotel, transportation company and more. We have put together a checklist of questions focused on worker’s rights that we will be asking each vendor to follow, and are taking part in conversations with employees on a consistent basis (including the Joint Committee with our team hotel)...

We have also brought on a group to serve in a “Compliance Officer” role. The individual(s) are based in Qatar and will be in consistent communication with all our vendors to ensure they are staying in compliance with worker welfare requirements. They will be documenting conversations as they go, and following up in necessary moments as needed...

... we participate in a Joint Committee between the hotel management and employees that was established to discuss any issues that may arise. We are also having our Compliance Officer keep in consistent contact with the hotel to ensure things are being followed in the proper manner
