The murder of Ricardo Arnaúl Montero was denounced by the Black Fraternal Organisation of Honduras (Ofraneh). Ricardo was an active member of the Land Defence Committee of the Garífuna community Triunfo de la Cruz and part of the security and protection team in the sector of the Gama River in the vicinity of the recovered Secundino Torres territory (communal property in the part that overlaps with an area of the Punta Izopo National Park). The community Triunfo de la Cruz and Ofraneh have denounced several times "with names and surnames the death threats" against the members of the land committee. The black community denounced "the permanent harassment and threats" from a tourist complex "usurper that has taken over the territory and has prohibited access to the ancestral cemetery".
