Sudan: Eight workers die of suffocation in a mine owned by the Sudanese Mineral Resources Limited Company

"Eight Miners Suffocate to Death in Mine East Sudan"

Eight persons died of suffocation inside a mine in Wadi Allaqi area in Red Sea State, East of Sudan.

Sudanese Mineral Resources Limited Company (SMRC) said in a statement on Sunday that eight miners died as a result of suffocation and oxygen loss after a well burning operation.

SMRC, which is affiliated with the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals - responsible for mining activity in the country, added that the authorities transferred the bodies of the eight victims from the mine to a hospital.

On March 31, the company said that 14 miners were killed and more than 20 persons were injured in a mine collapse in the northern state....
