UL Solutions response to New York Times alleging audits fail to detect child labour in food supply chains

UL Solutions does not comment on other companies or confirm whether UL Solutions provided any services to them.

UL Solutions responsible sourcing audits provide a snapshot of what is found at a facility at a given point in time, based on customers’ specific requests and needs. As is standard practice, a responsible sourcing audit report is compiled through a sampling of documents, employee interviews and observations. As we state in the reports to customers, the responsible sourcing audit report cannot and does not guarantee that an audited facility is in full compliance with requirements against which it was audited, and does not confirm or certify compliance with laws, various industry standards or customer codes of conduct.

Responsible sourcing audit reports are provided to the audited facility’s management and the company requesting the audit. The reports can in turn be used by the recipients at their discretion to improve compliance practices.

UL Solutions responsible sourcing audits are only one component of a comprehensive social compliance program administered by the customer. Other components can include analysis of risk, code of conduct evaluations, training and engagement with stakeholders including industry associations.
