USA: Retail & fast food workers say they receive 'rewards' of pizza and candy instead of sick leave and hazard pay

Workers at essential businesses like Staples, Costco, and Wendy's say they're insulted by 'pathetic' rewards of pizza, free lunches, and candy, as they beg for sick leave and hazard pay during the pandemic, 7 April 2020

Many employees of essential businesses still do not get additional paid sick leave or increased pay amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, some chains are offering its workers other benefits like free pizza, lunches, and incentive points...

Staples, Office Depot, and Costco have still not introduced additional paid time off for most of their employees.

While most major fast-food chains, including Wendy's, have rolled out paid sick leave and other benefits, these policies do not necessarily impact the vast majority of workers at franchisee-owned locations.
