Myanmar: Japanese & Korean cos. urged to cut ties with military's business projects sanctioned by EU

Justice For Myanmar (JFM) calls for cutting ties with the Myanmar Army’s Quartermaster General, which is allegedly linked to Japanese and Korean companies and public financial institutions in Y Complex development as well as the LOTTE Hotel development in Myanmar. According to JFM, the Quartermaster General “plays a key role in the military’s corrupt business activities, overseeing Myanmar Economic Corporation, the army’s real estate developments and the purchase of arms, equipment and technology.” The EU recently decided to sanction the Quartermaster General.

JFM calls on all companies and public financial institutions to urgently and responsibly cut ties with the Office of the Quartermaster General.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited the six companies mentioned by JFM to respond to the allegations. Daiwa House Industries, Tokyo Tatemono, JBIC and JOIN responded. Their responses are linked below. POSCO International, and LOTTE Hotels & Resorts did not.
