Waitrose's response re- civil society letter on poor living conditions in Almería

We take responsible sourcing seriously, and use a range of methods to monitor conditions, including in-person visits, independent audits and supplier assessments.

We remain committed to ensuring workers rights are met across our supply chains. Our expectations are laid out in our Human Rights Policy, which can be viewed here.

Along with other retailers in the industry, we continue to work closely with our suppliers to drive improvements across the sector, both directly and as part of our work as members of the Spanish Ethical Trade Forum (ETF).

We’ve worked with the Spanish Ethical Trade Forum (ETF) since it began in 2015, aiming to improve working conditions in the Spanish horticulture sector.

We strongly encourage growers to work towards the Spanish ETF temporary accommodation guidelines, which gives clear guidance on access to water and electricity, and we’ll continue our conversations with the range of stakeholders in the ETF to make sure that any issues are addressed.
