Action taken: Kalchini recently supplied tea to Unilever, according to a supplier list publicly disclosed by Unilever. Unilever provided a response to a request for comment from the Resource Centre. Lipton Teas and Infusions, which took over most of Unilever’s tea business in 2022, was also asked for a response. Lipton said it does not source tea from the estate.

"Kalchini tea plantation workers stage protest", 19 July 2023
On Wednesday, workers of Kalchini tea garden gheraoed the manager’s office with a charter of demands, including payment of wages, salary, PF, and gratuity for the workers. Krishna Oraon, worker, said, “Several workers have not received their weekly wages. Gate meetings like this will be held until Saturday. If our demands are not met during this period, we will stop all work in the garden starting from Monday.”
