Zambia stops [South African] retail chain from leaving
A court in Lusaka has blocked a South African supermarket chain from removing its assets and funds from Zambia until it pays benefits to about 800 workers following the sale of its shares to new owners. High Court judge Christine Phiri granted an injunction to the workers late Thursday to stop Shoprite Checkers, which is the biggest supermarket trading in Zambia, from transferring its funds and assets to South Africa.... The workers are demanding to be paid terminal benefits by Shoprite Checkers before the new owners, who will continue to run the business in Zambia, take over.
