Workers at another Chinese-funded project in Indonesia's IMIP owed wages, 03 September 2024

In May 2024, a social media post indicated that workers at the China MCC20 Group Guang Qing De (广青德) 1780 project in Indonesia's IMIP were owed wages, prompting them to go on strike for several days between 25 and 27 May.

Footage taken by the workers shows dozens of workers dressed in grey overalls and yellow helmets gathering outside a simple office, the kind commonly found on construction sites, to demand their wages. ......

Upon investigation, we found that the group involved is China MCC 20 Group, a subsidiary of the Metallurgical Corporation of China, and its business is mainly metallurgical construction. ......

The project referred to by the workers is the Guang Qing De 1780 project, which is being built by China MCC 20 Group and is a project to export construction equipment and hazardous materials for engineering use to Jakarta, Indonesia, through foreign contracting for export. The project commenced construction in March 2023 and is contractually scheduled for completion on 31 December 2024. .....
