Responsible Labor Initiative Launches to Promote Rights of Workers Vulnerable to Forced Labor, 26 June 2017

The Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC), a nonprofit coalition of electronics companies dedicated to sustainable supply chains, launched its Responsible Labor Initiative (RLI) to help companies across sectors respect the rights of workers vulnerable to forced labor.

The RLI will build on leading EICC standards, programs and partnerships that will be extended to other industries through membership in the RLI and will work in conjunction with complementary solutions to better address these issues, such as self-assessments and audits for factories and labor agents and factory capacity building, and a third-party helpline.

The RLI was formed with the assistance of a multi-stakeholder Advisory Group comprised of representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB), The Fair Hiring Initiative (TFHI), Verité, the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), CH2M, Intel, Walmart and other companies.

The RLI includes industries already engaged in the EICC, such as electronics and automotive, and will expand to others to maximize leverage in key sourcing areas.
