Mexico: Civil society demands transparency & action regarding factory that collapsed during earthquake
In the earthquake of the 19 of September, a building with 'maquilas' collapsed in Mexico City. Civil society has demanded transparency regarding how many workers were inside and for whom they worked.
Business and Human Rights Resource Centre contacted the following companies to respond to allegations that they were present in the building & behaved in a ‘suspicious’ way following the earthquake:
- Florina (mentioned in the video below). Did not respond.
- Seo Young International (mentioned in the video below). Did not respond.
- ABC Toys (mentioned in the video below). Did not respond.
- Foley's - Response below (only in Spanish); they denied having operations in the building (mentioned in this article)
We will indicate here next week whether the above companies have responded or not.
More information in Spanish available here.

The information provided with reference to the corner of Bolivar and Chimalpopoca is false since "Foley's" is located at Av. 20 de Noviembre No. 175, Col. Centro (Area 9) - so we have nothing to do with the company that used to be established there. [This is an unofficial translation from Spanish by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre].

I have been volunteering here in Mexico City as part of the ‘Brigadas Independientes’ or civilian volunteers working as part of the relief effort since the Earthquake on Sept 19. I am making this video to bring international attention to a building being referred to as the Factory on Chimalpopoca that fell in the neighborhood of La Obrera. In fact it was a building containing a textile factory as well as other businesses. I will list them...Linea Joven, Florina S.A (Legal representative Gloria Trinidad Barrera Dávila), Regalomex (Legal representative as of 2015 Miguel Quintanar Silvia), Seo Young International (Representative Cho Han Sup), ABC Toys (Qingquing Shi), The offices of Jaimie Asquenazi, Dashcam systems...There has been very suspicious behaviors from these companies, the owner of the building, as well as the government since the earthquake. Presumably there were many undocumented workers in the building at the time of the earthquake. I say presumably because none of the authorities have released any lists of names of potential victims that were in the building...
