NGO Commentary: Korean govt's response to UNWG visit fails to acknowledge poor labour conditions and negative health impacts of companies

"Comment: The government’s response to UN Working Group’s Korea visit report does not reflect the Korean reality", 11 June 2017

On 8 June 2017, the Korean government submitted its official response to the “Report of the Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporation and other business enterprises on its visit to the Republic of Korea”… However, [the response] utterly fail[s] to portray the Korean reality… Subcontractor workers’ union are continuing to deteriorate… Compensation claims being are continuously being filed for simple refusal to labor services and for lawful industrial action… The response has no mention of the important issues of the report, such as…methanol poisoning in supply chains … industrial accidents… environmental damages… child labor.
