Peru: UN Working Group on business & human rights urges the Govt. and companies to improve the human rights record in the country

After one-week visit, the UN Working Group on business & human rights called the attention on the situation of Human Rights Defenders and the growing conflicts associated to protests against abuses by companies, in particular, of the extractive sector…The report concerns the Las Bambas mining project, in which the [China-backed] company did not comply with the original EIA that planned the construction of a duct and the company is using trucks instead, producing tons of dust.  The paragraph acknowledges the engagement of Las Bambas management team in conversations with the WG.
