A directive issued to farmers by Harmony Gold Mining company on July 16 warns that the National Nuclear Regulator has issued a directive prohibiting the use of water from the spruit for agricultural purposes... The National Nuclear Regulator recently issued a report on a study that found sediments in the Wonderfonteinspruit to be dangerously contaminated with radioactive elements such as uranium... An estimated 300000 to 400000 people live along the Wonderfonteinspruit in informal settlements... They have not yet been warned about the danger.
