Situated with the Human Rights and Environment team, the successful candidate will play a key role conducting research and analysis of sustainability risks within raw material / commodity supply chains. The research outputs and insights from the candidate will be used by the world’s leading companies across retail, food and beverage, ICT and financial sectors to help embed sustainability within their supply chain strategies and operational decision making. The role will involve close collaboration with our Global Commodities Content Lead, Human Rights, Environment and Analytics research teams plus regular consulting engagements.

Primary Responsibilities

Perform regular research of sustainability risks within raw material / commodity supply chains – the research will largely focus on human rights and environmental challenges at the farm / mine level, but will extend through supply chain tiers and thematic risk areas (e.g. political, economic, market risk, etc.)

Incorporate qualitative and quantitative research findings into structured analytical products, including proprietary datasets and written content

Conduct peer review of research and content prior to publication, including holding responsibility for final approval of some content before it is published for clients

Contribute to the company’s social media strategy via the release of content for Twitter, LinkedIn and other media channels

Work closely with colleagues to support innovation, including the development and delivery of new datasets, products and services to meet the needs of our clients

Delivering subject-specific and theoretical insights to clients via consulting activity

Supporting the Sales and Marketing team through client engagements and the development of thought leadership

Communicating regularly with clients, sharing our views and engaging in mutually beneficial dialogue, while building external relationships to maintain understanding of client needs and industry developments

Knowledge, skills and experience

Given the unique nature of this role we are open to applications from candidates with a wide range of professional backgrounds and holding various skills. However, key attributes for the successful candidate are likely to include:

Subject matter knowledge of raw material / commodity supply chains

Technical understanding of sustainability risks inherent to raw material / commodity supply chains, including human rights and environment

Communication skills, particularly the ability to create clear and insightful written content

Qualitative and quantitative research expertise

A number of desirable knowledge and skill sets include:

In-depth knowledge of one or more key sectors, including consumer and retail, food and beverage, financial services and ICT Supply chain management and / or value chain analysis

Sustainable / responsible sourcing

Implementation of key international standards such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights or IFC Performance Standards

Social / socio-economic impact assessment

Risk management

Carbon footprinting or Life Cycle Analysis

Strong presentation skills

Strong interpersonal skills
