Concerning its commitment towards human rights, DANZER is in close contact with…AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL or Observatoire Congolais des Droits de l’Homme (OCDH) in Congo. In all except the Yalisika case, SIFORCO was successful negotiating amicable solutions using its conflict resolution mechanisms, which also involved local authorities. In the case of Yalisika, the community refused to even talk - let alone negotiate - with either SIFORCO or the local authorities. After several weeks of unsuccessful attempts of the authorities to communicate with the community, the authorities decided to bring back the equipment and material that Yalisika had stolen from SIFORCO…After the actions of local authorities, SIFORCO provided help right away to the community (medical support and treatment, compensation/ contribution in kind)…It also initiated an independent third-party audit at Yalisika...[N]o wrong-doing on the side of SIFORCO was established in the run of these investigations. The event is most regrettable, but was beyond the control of SIFORCO...
