Study finds that migrant construction workers in the Gulf work under inadequate safety regulations and enforcement, leading to injuries and deaths

Inadequate training, limited use of safety equipment and a lack of government oversight contribute to deaths and injuries among construction workers in the rapidly developing Arabian Gulf region [...]a UT Dallas study found...The most common types of accidents involve workers falling or being hit by objects..."Construction is one of the most dangerous occupations in the world," said Dr. Simon Fass [...] lead author of the study. "In that part of the world, there's a confluence of several factors that likely make it worse." Construction firms have had little incentive to make the job sites safer given the region's history of weak regulation and enforcement...The mostly expatriate workforce has little political power and few means to seek recourse, such as litigation or unions.
