Thailand: New labour law increases prison sentences and fines for undocumented workers

The Thai government's new labor law penalises undocumented workers with up to five years of jail time and a fine of up to 100,000 baht ($2,941). Employers hiring undocumented workers could face fines from 400,000 baht ($11,766) to 800,000 baht ($23,532) for each employee.

Migrant workers continue to leave the country. Because teachers with no residency permits are afraid to go to school, the teachers' association was forced to temporarily suspend schools for children of migrant workers.
