Angola: Two Caculo Cabassa Dam construction workers die in police repression of protest for better working conditions

...Angola experienced this week another demonstration by workers, repressed by the police. This protest ended with fatalities, according to information from the province of Kwanza Norte.
According to the Trade Union Committee for the Caculo Cabassa Dam Construction Project, on Thursday around 400 striking workers from a Chinese company, the contractor for the project, were repressed by security forces, resulting in three deaths and five people being injured.
The workers were demanding better wages and working conditions.
According to the police, who confirmed that the protest had taken place, the authorities were forced to use force to prevent the Chinese company's property and works in progress to be vandalised by the workers, who were involved in clashes with the public security agents.
According to the police, the shooting at the protesters served to contain the violence and to stop the destruction of property, with two workers killed and five others injured. The police opened an investigation to determine the causes of the clashes with the strikers.
