On 23 December 2024, indigenous human rights defenders were presumably attacked by police in Colombia. The indigenous communities are actively claiming their land rights against the company Cerro Matoso. The uniformed police officers fired shots, intimidated with their service weapons, and refused to identify themselves when requested. The events took place when a group of indigenous people, who apparently would be the legitimate heirs and owners of the properties known as 'Paso de San Antonio' and the 'El Botón' hacienda, re-entered their territory after previously reporting that they did not have a place to live.
