On 14 December it was announced that Kenyan security guard, John Njue Kibue, who was only 24 had died after a fall on Saturday 10 December at Lusail stadium. Kibue was employed by Al Sraiya Security Services, which has not commented on his death.

The Supreme Committee announced his death and said “Qatar’s tournament organisers are investigating the circumstances leading to the fall as a matter of urgency and will provide further information pending the outcome of the investigation,." FIFA have also commented that they are in touch with the relevant authorities.

Following reports of Kibue's death, other workers at Al Sraiya told The Athletic they knew of other incidents at Lusail Stadium where workers had consequently needed medical treatment. Workers had reportedly been told not to speak about the case publicly. The Supreme Committee and Al Sraiya did not respond to request for comment.
