Below you can find a selected, non-exhaustive compilation of allegations of human rights abuse against smaller tech companies (<150 million EUR turnover and <500 employees), recorded on the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre website. The examples show that all tech companies, regardless of their size, can have negative human rights impacts.
In the tech sector in particular, many high-impact companies, for example those providing surveillance or facial recognition software among others, fall into this category. Recognising the sector as high-impact under the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive would therefore help provide crucial additional protections for those affected by tech impacts.
