This prohibition on exploitation includes taking advantage of vulnerable people in connection with trafficking and smuggling. TikTok's Community Guidelines apply to everything on our platform, including content in Direct Messaging (DM). We have safeguards in place to protect our community when using DM, which is only available to account holders aged 16 and older. For example, users cannot send a direct message to someone who doesn't follow them unless the recipient accepts a message request. Users must be aged 18 years or older to receive message requests. If the recipient deletes a message request or doesn't respond, the user is not able to send a DM.
