Fostering inter-regional learning: Establishing national frameworks to regulate transnational corporations and safeguard human rights in Africa and Latin America

In recent years, the global landscape of business and human rights has increasingly emphasized the importance of national frameworks for regulating the activities of transnational corporations (TNCs). Both African and Latin American countries face unique challenges and opportunities in developing and implementing effective frameworks that ensure TNCs operate responsibly and respect human rights. Africa and Latin America are regions rich in natural resources, making them attractive destinations for investment by TNCs. However, the presence of TNCs can also pose risks to local communities and the environment if not properly regulated. Many countries in both regions have recognized the need to establish robust legal and regulatory frameworks to govern the activities of TNCs and mitigate potential negative impacts.

The webinar will feature interactive presentations conducted by regulatory bodies, regional institutions and international organizations, focusing on best practices and regulatory approaches to address the impacts of transnational corporations (TNCs). These presentations will provide insights into effective frameworks for regulating TNC activities and mitigating their impacts on human rights and the environment. Additionally, the webinar will include experience-sharing sessions facilitated by human rights activists and civil society organizations. These sessions will highlight real-world challenges, successes, and lessons learned in implementing national frameworks to hold TNCs accountable and protect affected communities.

The webinar will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation provided in Spanish and French to ensure accessibility and participation from diverse audiences across Africa and Latin America.

Participants will have opportunities to engage in discussions, ask questions, and exchange ideas to foster collaborative learning and strengthen regional approaches to TNC regulation.
