Japan: Civil society & shareholders urge companies listed in Tokyo Prime Market to assess and disclose oversight function of their climate-related risk management; incl. co. comments
A coalition of environmental organisations and shareholders have filed the resolutions calling for greater disclosure by the companies on how they will meet their net-zero commitments. This year, the coalition have set their sights on the governance of the target companies, urging them to strengthen the oversight function of their directors regarding climate-related business risks, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Mizuho Financial Group, and Chubu Electric Power provided their comments to Reuters. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group declined to comment.
