Africa: European Union MPs say G8 initiative on food security disadvantages small-scale farmers

European lawmakers have urged the EU not to support the introduction of GMOs in Africa. In a resolution criticising the G8’s New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition, they said it does not serve the interests of family farmers. An advocacy group has also said that EU's funding of the initiative "ignores murky world of land-grabs and human rights violations", citing the EcoEnergy project in Tanzania.[The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre has in the past obtained response from EcoEnergy about similar concerns.
