Carlos Beas Torres and his organisation, the Union of indigenous communities from the North of the Isthmus (Unión de Comunidades Indígenas de la Zona Norte del Istmo (Ucizoni)), territorial defender from the Isthmus region in the South of Oaxaca, Mexico, have received threats following the 20-day blockade of train tracks forming part of the mega project, the Interoceanic Corredor. The National Indigenous Congress (CNI) issued a statement which indicated their special concern for the situation of Carlos Beas, "who has been constantly threatened and that alleged journalists have tried to criminalise him by pointing him out as responsible for the mobilisations and linking his organisation to organised crime". They also referred to constant harassment against Ucizoni and Mixe villagers who have mobilised against the Interoceanic Corridor, by elements of the Navy and "organised crime at the service of the companies".
