China’s Global Energy Finance Database by the Boston University Global Development Policy Center

China’s Global Energy Finance Database

The China’s Global Energy Finance Database is an interactive data project exhibiting public financing for global energy projects by China’s two global policy banks—the China Development Bank (CDB) and the Export-Import Bank of China (CHEXIM).

CDB and CHEXIM do not currently publish these data at a disaggregated level. Over the years, the Boston University Global Development Policy (GDP) Center and the China-Africa Research Initiative of Johns Hopkins University (SAIS-CARI) have developed a tracking methodology to fill this data gap.

Related databases include our Chinese Loans to Africa (CLA) Database, previously managed by SAIS-CARI and now updated by the GDP Center, as well as the China-Latin America Finance (CLAF) Database, jointly managed with the Inter-American Dialogue.

The China’s Global Energy Finance Database combines data from the CLA and CLAF Databases to estimate levels of China’s global energy finance.

The Boston University Global Development Policy (GDP) Center is a University-wide center in partnership with the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. The GDP Center’s mission is to advance policy-oriented research for financial stability, human well-being and environmental sustainability.
