In July 2023, it was reported that workers at Kalchini Tea Estate in West Bengal staged a protest after not receiving their weekly wages and benefits. The workers threatened to strike until the situation was resolved. The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre asked for a response from Unilever - a buyer of tea from the estate according to its publicly disclosed supplier list - and Lipton (formerly ekaterra) which took over most of Unilever's tea business in 2022.
