Itochu statement

ITOCHU is deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine and hopes that a peaceful resolution is achieved as soon as possible.

Respect and consideration for human rights is an important issue for ITOCHU in our business activities in various regions around the world. We support international agreements on human rights, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and the United Nations Global Compact. We will also respect human rights in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We ask all of our stakeholders to approve, understand, and put into practice ITOCHU’s human rights policy in addition to educating employees in order to respond to this important issue.

Regarding human rights due diligence activities, ITOCHU is fulfilling its responsibility to respect human rights based on the ITOCHU Group Human Rights Policy. Specifically, we identify and evaluate any negative human rights impact that our group’s corporate activities may have on society. We then implement appropriate prevention and mitigation measures.

For more details on our human rights activities, please see our website “Respect and Consideration for Human Rights.”

ITOCHU has been conducting business in Russia and Ukraine and will continue to monitor the situation closely. We will continue to consult with stakeholders, including the Japanese government and our business partners, with regards to business in both countries and will take appropriate action
