Myanmar: Garment worker allegedly forced to resign after requesting medical leave

Recently, an employee of Myanmar Lucky Garment Factory was forced to resign by his supervisor when he asked for leave due to illness while working in the workplace.

[The] employee who was fired said, “I'm not feeling well [so] I asked my supervisor for a gate pass because I was sick. He slapped me on the cheek, saying he would not allow it. Then he opened the gate and told me not to come to work the next day. I was fired without any compensation. On Sundays, we have to work overtime and not get overtime pay, ”said a statement from the Myanmar Federation of Trade Unions (FGWM)…

A union leader said, “We now have a lot of such cases. As you know, the law is biased. There is no assessment from the relevant department, so the business owners are doing what they like or dislike in their minds. The main problem is forced labor. If the worker cannot bear this punishment, leave...”he told DVB…
