Myanmar: Garment workers report physical & verbal abuse from supervisors; Incl. co. responses
In May 2023, it was reported that workers at Myanmar of Hua Meng factory faced a series of violations, including mandatory overtime, denial of maternity leave for pregnant workers, excessive production targets, workers forced to hand their phones over to security staff, unsanitary working conditions incl. insufficient toilets, lack of adequate drinking water and unhygienic dining area. Workers also reported supervisors verbally and physically abusing workers.
In October 2023, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited LPP S.A (for its Sinsay, MOHITO and HOUSE brands), ZU, Otto Group (for its Bon Prix brand), and Sergio Tachini to respond. The responses can be found below.
