On 25 August 2024, two anonymous Nepalese organizations filed a complaint against Visa Facilitation Services (VFS) Global, citing human rights violations linked to VFS's involvement with the Chhaya Center business complex in Kathmandu. The complainants allege that the Center's construction on land tied to the Indigenous Newar community’s Guthi (trust) lands has led to human rights abuses, including harassment of local activists opposing the project. They seek mediation for VFS Global to acknowledge its connection to these issues, use its influence to enforce human rights standards, and ensure protection for activists facing retaliation.
