Pakistan: Coal mine company refuses to cooperate with fact-finding mission after worker's torture and death; community protests lead to violence
In July 2021, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) to respond to the allegations that it had tortured and killed a worker and that it was advised not to cooperate in a fact-finding probe into the worker's death. SECMC's statement is available in full below.
We also invited the Chinese entities directly linked to this project, including: China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), China State Power, State Power International Mengdong (SPIM), China Development Bank (CDB), Construction Bank of China (CCB), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) -- we did not receive any responses.
