UK: Outsourced NHS workers strike for London living wage
Around 200 service workers employed by Aramark to provide support services across four mental health facilities run by the South London and Maudsley NHS trust have taken the decision to strike for better terms and conditions of employment. The outsourced workers are paid the statutory minimum wage and have restricted access to sick pay. The strike follows failed negotiations between Aramark and the GMB union in which the workers demanded the London living wage. The workers complain of a two-tier pay structure, with workers who were previously employed by outsourcing firm ISS receiving better terms.
