USA: Mushroom pickers campaign for better working conditions amid continued allegations of union-busting & "oppressive" environment under new ownership; incl. comment from Windmill Farms

Mushrooms

Mexican mushroom pickers at Windmill Farms' Sunnyside facility in Washington, USA, continue to allege poor working conditions at the farm, including union-busting, and "oppressive" working environment and fire and rehire tactics. The termination of at least one union advocate is believed to be retaliatory by the United Farm Workers union.

The allegations come months after previous allegations of labour abuse, workers' call for a union and a lawsuit from the state attorney general's office prompted previous owner Ostrom Mushroom Farms to sell the facility to Windmill Farms in February 2023.

In May, Ostrom Mushroom Farms was fined USD3.4m for gender discrimination and other unfair and discriminatory practices.
