European Commission holds online consultation with Global South Business & Human Rights Advocates

As part of the European Commission’s public consultation for an EU corporate human rights and environmental due diligence legislative proposal, the cabinet of Commissioner Reynders hold an open and public exchange with three business & human rights advocates from the Global South on January 13, 2021.

Speaker-advocates:

Dr. Rana Sengupta, Managing Trustee of Mines Labour Protection Campaign (MLPC), which advocates for improved conditions for the millions of workers in Indian stone quarries servicing European and global demand.

Chima Williams is executive directive Friends of the Earth in Nigeria, advocating for access to justice for communities and the corporate accountability of European oil companies, as concerns the widespread adverse environmental impacts of their operations in Nigeria.

Jaybee Garganera is the National Coordinator of Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM), a network of grassroots organisations across the Philippines that are campaigning against human rights abuses and environmental harm caused by mining projects.

The event was chaired by Krishnendu Mukherjee, barrister at Doughty Street Chambers.
