10 years on: Walking the talk for a powerful binding treaty

Ahead of the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Working Group (IGWG) on a binding treaty on 16-20 December 2024, we asked experts to share their reflections on the treaty process for the last 10 years and the key points to address as it moves forward. Contributions highlight the change in regulatory frameworks, especially the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EU CSDDD), and what it means for a treaty; the need for a treaty to prioritise workers’ rights; the next steps to achieve a meaningful binding treaty; as well as reflections giving an African, Asian and Latin American perspective on the treaty debate. Please note that no new draft treaty text was released this year. The July 2023 draft is the text to be discussed at the 10th session of the IGWG.
