As they have done many times before, climate activists gathered outside Standard Bank’s head office in Johannesburg in solidarity with those previously arrested at the bank and continuing their call for the end of fossil fuel financing.

Malik Dasoo, the Extinction Rebellion activist who organised the protest, was arrested on within minutes of arriving at the picket. He says he was arrested without warning and detained for seven hours before being released on bail. He was charged with public violence and inciting public violence. However, the prosecutor declined to prosecute him.
