Young people stage global climate strike in 125 countries against climate inaction as CEOs voice their support
Young people rallied on 15 March to press politicians to act on climate change - the global climate strike took place in over 2000 locations in 125 countries on all continents, including Antarctica. Their message is that "last year’s UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s special report on globalwarming could not have been clearer about the extreme dangers of going beyond 1.5C of global warming" and that to have any chance of avoiding that extreme danger emissions must drop rapidly – so that by the time they are in their mid- and late-20s they are living in a transformed world. They are also saying that "we need to keep fossil fuels in the ground, phase out subsidies for dirty energy production, seriously invest in renewables and start asking difficult questions about how we structure our economies and who is set to win and who is set to lose". CEOs of Kering, Unilever and Virgin, along with other B Team leaders, sent messages of support on Twitter.
