In March 2024, community 70 members from the parishes Palo Quemado and Las Pampas del Cantón Sigchos (see CONAIE source for list of names), Ecuador, were charged for the alleged crime of "terrorism". This accusation seems to arise as a response to the resistance of the population during the process of allegedly false environmental consultation in the region initiated by the government and mining companies.
