AngloGold Ashanti unhappy with Teberebie shooting

Management of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Limited (AAIL) has expressed regret about the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred at its Mine Site last Thursday. One person sustained gunshot wounds in the upper thigh and was rushed to the Effia-Nwanta Hospital, Takoradi. Four others, who sustained injuries were treated and discharged at the mine’s Clinic... A press statement issued by the company later, confirmed that the incident was indeed sparked off by a clash between security personnel deployed by the mine and members of the community who were insisting on the use of a haul road... [AngloGold] said it was already taking steps to address the concerns of the community members and so was surprised at the clash. The company says it deeply regrets the incident especially in view of the determined efforts to get the Teberebie community to use [a] new and much safer road...
