Cambodia: Despite international support for CENTRAL, union sues their senior staff for incitement and seek heavy compensations after his interview with an overseas media outlet

Hang Ravy, President of the Cambodian Confederation of Copyright Workers, has presented additional evidence to Deputy Prosecutor Lim Bunheng of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court in a lawsuit against Khun Tharo, an official from the Center for Labor Alliances and Human Rights (CENTRAL). These actions are classified as criminal offenses under Articles 494, 496, and 305 of the Penal Code.

Ravy is pursuing legal action against Khun Tharo for public defamation and incitement to discrimination, stemming from an interview with Radio Free Asia. In the interview, Khun Tharo accused others of using fake unions to
undermine independent unions and employing fraudulent youth organizations to attack independent civil society…

Ravy added that CENTRAL operates with a political agenda as an NGO receiving foreign funding. Union leaders are seeking 1 billion Riel in compensation from Khun Tharo.
