Citizen Lab report alleges journalists at Qatar's Al Jazeera were hacked with NSO Group tool; incl. company comments

A new report from the Citizen Lab suspects dozens of journalists at Qatar-based Al Jazeera have been targeted with spyware sold by surveillance technology firm NSO Group. The report's authors think it likely that the hacking of the journalists phones was ordered by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The targeting is notable for its use of "zero-click" exploits and network-based attacks that break into a phone without user action and without leaving visible traces. The same approach was used in the 2019 WhatsApp breach.
