Community leader Danelly Estupiñán has been the victim of death threats. The leader has documented the negative impacts of port expansion in Buenaventura, is part of the black community process (Proceso de comunidades Negras) and participated in the civic strike of 2017. Amnesty international and several NGOs believe threats are related to her human rights defense and have asked the government to investigate the persecution against her - the organizations have sent several letters to the Colombian state. Since January 2019 she has allegedly recorded 16 follow-up episodes and intimidation against her.
