Holcim’s response to the allegations

Concerning the allegations raised in the articles you mentioned, we immediately followed up and also sent a member of the human rights team to Kenya to investigate and support our colleagues on the ground. This is an example of our standard practice for human rights issues – all allegations are immediately and rigorously investigated.

The investigation found that these were past allegations against the Kenyan Authorities (GSU) and a Bamburi service provider (G4S), and the company has found no evidence of wrongdoing after conducting reviews and enquiries. There have been two recorded incidents, which were thoroughly investigated: one was reported to and dealt with by local police; for the other, no allegations could be substantiated.

The GSU (General Service Unit) unit is a state security detail, which has been stationed on Bamburi’s property at the Matuga site since 2007 at the National Government's request. It does not provide any services to Bamburi. Holcim and its subsidiaries are deeply committed to respecting global standards on human rights, such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
