India: Calls for manager's arrest after worker severely injured at tea factory, incl. co. responses
In March 2023, it was reported that a tea worker was seriously injured by a cut-tear-curl (CTC) machine at the Samdang tea factory in Assam. Workers and advocates staged protests in response, alleging that the accident happened in part due to management negligence. The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre asked for a response from recent buyers of tea from the factory - Unilever (and Lipton (formerly ekaterra) which took over most of Unilever's tea business in 2022), Tetley and Teasup. Teasup, Tetley and Lipton confirmed that they do not source from Samdang.
