"Workers’ quarters were damaged due to elephant attack in Baradighi tea garden", 29 June 2022
Elephant attacks continue in Baradighi tea garden in Metli block. On Tuesday night, an elephant came out of the Lataguri forest and attacked the area. The houses of two workers of the laundry line were damaged by the elephant attack. Besides, elephants consume all the food items including rice stored in the house. The family members escaped and somehow survived. About an hour later, the elephant returned to the forest, shouting at the locals.
Incidentally, last Saturday, elephants demolished the houses of six workers in the same line of the garden. After that, the residents of the garden protested for about 5 hours at the Baradighi bit office. They demanded the safety of the people of the garden. It is alleged that no action was taken despite the assurance given by the forest department on that day. They have become vocal in the same demand again. Necessary steps have been assured on behalf of the forest department.
