The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) has denounced that Juan Bay, president of the Waorani Nationality of Ecuador (NAWE), and his family have received threats during the Yasuní Summit, which took place on 28, 29 and 30 August on the anniversary of the country's historic vote to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

The Waorani criticised the government for its failure to meet a one-year deadline to end all oil activities.
